new ways of linking to amazon products

Here’s the usual, bog standard method, which means logging into the Amazon associate (affiliate) site to choose the subject your blog post, or article, is about.

It looks fine, though I’ve never liked the big Amazon logo they always stick at the top.

Here’s a new method they’re trialing called Omakase links.

Omakase links will “Automatically feature ideal products based on Amazon’s unique knowledge about what works for your site, for your users and for the content of your page.”

In other words it’s, partly at least, contextual (so I guess it can’t be used with Adsense on the page). Now I wonder if these ads are going to be different from the ones displayed higher up the page which were set for success and motivation.

And here’s yet another way, using a free tool called Widgetbox.

If I was doing this for real, as a permanent addition to my blog, rather than just writing about it, I’d have turned the widgetbox into a vertical and put it in the sidebar.

It’s an interesting site, with maybe 100 different widgets, though most of them don’t give you the chance of earning a few dollars by linking to affiliate products. And I didn’t find it all that easy to use. I also haven’t managed to get my Amazon ID inserted, so I’m displaying the creators of the widget which makes the whole effort pointless.

Based on what I’m seeing, the Omakase box isn’t contextual; it’s showing me items I’ve recently looked at at Amazon. Slick.

Hi

I’m the creator of the gizmoojo adgent for widgetbox, you can get the same widget by becoming a member at gizmoojo.com and then you will be able to use your own amazon associate id plus you can search and choose from most categories from Amazon.com

I would appreciate if you can give it a try and I would love to hear your feedback.

Thanks

Hey Phil

I just updated the Gizmoojo widget at widgetbox and now it uses the subscriber’s amazon assoicate id. I also added a few more categories and keywords works too. Look at this post.

Also you can adjust the ad rotation timer too ;)
