Twit Ramblings and plugins

Well I’ve been using Twitter for about a month now, and have had days when I thought it was the greatest thing ever and days where I couldn’t be bothered looking at it.

In that month I’ve made 82 tweets which is amazing for me seeing I average about one ezine a month :) but seems to be incredibly low for Twitter with some people appearing to match my 82 every few days.

Two of my tweets were product links, one for the videos on the new PPC Loophole /SpeedPPC site, and two were for the One Tip charity ebook both mentioned above.

The One Tip book tweet got about 20 clicks, which is excellent seeing there are only 280 people following me. Though I’ve no idea if anyone bought it/donated because it’s not an affiliate link because of all the proceeds going to charity.

The link on the PPC Loophole one got clicked 5 times in the first 5 minutes. And that one is an affiliate link.

So I can see that if I had 28,000 followers and the click rate stayed the same my aff link would have been clicked 100 times in those 5 mins, quite likely leading to 1 to 3 affiliate commissions.

But most likely the click rate would have been quite different because the bulk of the followers wouldn’t really know me or be all that interested in what I have to say.

At the moment most of those 280 followers are there because they want to read my tweets. With 28,000 many of them would be people using automation to follow people and then unfollow them when they don’t get followed back.

I know because plenty of people have followed me for 24 hours then vanished because I’ve not returned the favour.

I’ve checked out these automation tools and decided against using them. Can’t see the point in it.

For me, the thing I like most about Twitter is that I’ve caught up with a few old friends who I’ve not seen for a year or two, Rosalind Gardner for one and we found out that we’ve both been to Borneo and like caves :)

And Willie Crawford, Dr Mani, Alice Seba, and Frank Garon have all been in touch :)

So I can that it’s going to be useful for reaching people I want to do JV’s with. And it’s also great for teasing friends like  UK coach @MaryAMcNeil

Will I ever become a heavy duty user, making multiple posts a day?

I doubt it :)

But I can see it has its uses, and also how people can become addicted to it.

BTW, I’m @phil_wiley in case you’re interested.

Oh, just remembered a few more Twitter things :)

1. Last newsletter I said I’d try and talk my friend Megan Henshall into writing a piece about how she used Twitter to get four bookings in a week for her photography studio in the UK. Earlier today she agreed to write it. So it should be with you in the next newsletter unless she chickens out.

2. Was going to say I’ve added some Twitter plugins to my philwiley.com blog.

After looking at just about every Twitter plugin I decided to install Twitter Tools which adds your tweets to your blog sidebar, and creates an archive of all your tweets on your blog.

It can also create a weekly blog post featuring all your tweets of that week. And you can also set it so that it automatically tweets every new blog post you make.

So all in all it’s very handy. Especially at the price, which is zero.

The other Twitter plugin I’m using is WP Burn. It makes the Follow Me graphic you can see on the right side of the blog. It stays in place as you scroll so it’s always visible.

thanks Phil – I totally agree with your comments on Twitter.
I want to promote my affiliate offers among interesting content tweets
I have 785 followers at present many of whom want to follow me – am going to use an ace new software called Twitter Marketer Pro my friend Owen Rose has created which should boost my followers…..also I am currently missing a trick by not having an automated Direct Message reply enabled. Best Wishes, Mike
