Facebook friends

John Reese caused quite a stir recently when he emailed his super-sized lists inviting his subscribers to become his friend on Facebook, and in just a few days reached Facebook’s self-imposed maximum of 5000 friends.

As a spin-off other Internet marketers on Facebook gained new friends, as people new to the site started using the Facebook tools to send out their own invites, and I got dozens of requests .

The whole thing has been an excellent example of how viral marketing works. Personally I’ve been on Facebook for around 6 months, after joining out of curiosity, and although I haven’t embraced it as passionately as some of my fellow Internet marketers I must admit that I find it fascinating at times and spend longer there than I should.

So here’s a little invite from me: if you’d like to become my Facebook friend you’ll find my page here.

    Hi Phil,
    long time no speak! :)

facebook can easily turn in to a time sucking black hole, I realised I might be spending too much time “playing” with the fun apps in there when I got my “Petrolhead” car up to a Bugatti Veyron (needs 2 million points/500+ races won).

It suddenly dawned on me that I’d spent hours on getting a picture of a nice car on my profile, and nothing else, not that great a way to spend time..

so I decided to do something a bit more interesting instead and had a FaceBook application written for me instead (tagk.com), much “cooler”… lol!

I also got a bit of a boost in my friends numbers from John Reese’s recent facebook “push”.

    cheers,

Tagk looks good Matt, nice to see you doing something other than being a petrolhead and jetting off on ski holidays :)

But how come you haven’t got stumbleupon listed on tagk?

I use it all the time and come across some great sites.

    Hi Phil,

    oops!
it’s probably not the only one I’ve missed!
I’ll get my coder on it asap, thanks.
I was about to shoot you an email, hope the old addy I’ve got for you still works, or should I send it through facebook?
there’s a couple of blog plugins I though you might like to add here, including one that would’ve automatically let me know you’d replied, instead of me having to come back and check… :)

    Matt

the old email address you’ve got for me is next to useless. The only way you can be sure of reaching me is via my gmail email - if you have that - or the contact form on this site
    http://philwiley.com/contact/

It’ll be a while before I reply though because I’m packing it in for the day and opening a bottle of Red.

you’re calling it a day and opening a bottle of red?
    now that sounds tempting…

I better not though, as it’s only 10am here in good old blighty, so I guess I’ll just have to stick with tea, for now. :)

not sure I’ve got your gmail addy, so I’ll use the contact form, thanks, and no rush on a reply.

    cheers,
    MattG
