Another enjoyable and thought-provoking newsletter - thanks!

I think there are two other reasons people aren't buying as much any more. One is that there is an economic downturn in many countries right now (the UK certainly) and money is exceptionally tight.

Also, many of us are deluged with emails from internet marketers now. I used some 'bulk unsubscribing' software the other day and it told me I was subscribed to over 300 different mailing lists. Most of their missives, inevitably, I just ignore (with the exception of Phil's emails and a few others I trust). It's quite funny reading the ever-more-desperate subject lines., but mostly they just put me off opening the emails concerned. I never buy from them.

Nowadays, if I buy an IM product online, it's likely to be a WSO or else a well-tried and recommended product. I particularly hate the current generation of Clickbank sales pages, with their hyped-to-the-gills videos performed by actors and endless series of exit popups. Does anyone ever actually buy these products now?

I am a trained life coach/trainer by profession and I have gone 'back to my roots' - most of what I write focuses on building self confidence/personal growth right now, that's my passion.

I also work with local business owners/professionals in the UK helping them get online - consultancy work mainly and I have written an eBook on local marketing for the UK market thats on Kindle and I have an information product with the same eBook plus some videos that I sell through a blog membership site..

I decided to stick to topics that I know and am known for. I thought about writing ebooks on any topic like dog training or something but knowing the effort it takes to promote one eBook I stick to my two niches. A big niche selling different eBooks to the same people - I notice the 4 hour product recommends that too, its the way to go.

Learning how to create/market your own product is definitely worth it. Still waiting for my six figures a year but I actually still believe in that 100% and will keep going until I get there! At least I am blessed enough to be earning right now :)

I've bought my own share of $997 and higher products, and received even more as comps. It seemed the right price at the time, but looking back from today it was outrageous. I guess I should have joined in and made a few million with some big product launches :)

Are your ebooks all in the IM niche? Or a different market?

You are right about the 'rat' marketers - i got taken in by quite a few as a newbie... I remember the year of $997 when every new product launch cost that much and nothing really worked for me. My own fault of course - once I taught myself to be the marketer not the one being marketered to all the time I only bought what was important for my business.

I love what you say about product creation because I got back into ebook writing around July last year and am making that and blogging my main thing. I wrote a load of them back in 2007 but could never get them to sell - I guess I know more about traffic generation now and having a blog really helps and its nice to receive emails saying I sold something! I also like the membership site model.

One thing that hasn't changed it seems is the need for everthing to be quick, fast, etc... I guess everyone's looking for fast results.

I've no idea what happened to Marty, but a lot of people from the early days have gone quiet. Possibly because the got bored with it all and didn't need the money any more.
Re my illness - apparently, seeing there's no cure, I will have relapses, but it could be years between them. At the moment I'm still improving daily, and not yet considered to be in remission. Just got to live with it.

Yes had heard about the illness glad you came through something that sounded like a rather rare and hard to defeat illness. Glad to have you back. It seems like you and Marty Foley were the first people that I came into contact with in the start of my venture into the online arena. Way back in the early days of Allen Says WF 1998. And Marty has also delved deeper into his own thing and not been as viable as he once was.

It's hard to get off your butt Alex when you're looking after someone who isn't well. I hope she makes a recovery, and 'then' you can concentrate on getting some sites going. I guess your life is pretty much on hold at the moment.

If anyone here thinks Byron is a bit strange, I quite agree. But he's fairly harmless and has been allowed out of the institution now.

He's a UK film maker starring in his own version of a Ken Russell movie.
